I know it is a very touchy subject but what I like to do best is debate (put my point across as much as hearing the other side).
Lets look at a few points:
Shelters which Euthanise (to kill an incurably ill or injured person or animal to relieve suffering)
- Dog/Cat gets rescued
- Dog/Cat gets taken to shelter
- Dog/Cat gets put in an acceptable size cage
- Dog/Cat gets put up for adoption if not claimed
- Dog/Cat spends a few weeks without companionship in the cage with the occasional stroke or walk from volunteers if available
- Dog/Cat has run out of time and the decision is made to euthanise
- Dog/Cat gets an injection which puts them to sleep within seconds
No Kill Shelters
- Dog/Cat gets rescued
- Dog/Cat gets taken to shelter
- Dog/Cat can be turned away if shelter is too full
- Dog/Cat gets put up for adoption if not claimed (Those who do not re-home are basically hoarding)
- Dog/Cat spends the rest of their lives without companionship in the cage with the occasional stroke or walk from volunteers if available - I class this as suffering
- Dog/Cat get kennel stress and behavioural problems can develop
- Dog/Cat can become aggressive from lack of exercise
- If there is no proper sterilisation program in place breeding can be a problem
- Space is limited
Theses are my lists, and I am sure a lot more can be added on both.
I am not pro killing animals but in my mind, I would much prefer an animal to go to heaven than spend the rest of their lives in a cage with little or no chance of ever getting a home!
I have made a decision to explore as many animal movements as possible, as they are all good. Alot of people are very quick to judge the SPCA for example, and most of them have never stepped foot into one and seen the good they do. They will never turn down an animal.
Some shelters have good volunteer programmes in place where people can go on weekends or during the week to walk or play with the animals and I recommend that you take some time out and go to your nearest shelter and volunteer your services, it is a great reward!
I cannot stress anymore that we wouldn't need shelters if people weren't allowed to breed irresponsibly, puppies and kittens should all be sterilised!!!
I can go on forever on this subject, but I will leave you to think about my post, and please debate if need be, I am tough!!
Peace and Love

Sadley enough as much as it hurts, i have to agree with the 'kill' shelters...
ReplyDeleteSorry guys :(
It is very interesting how many people disagree...
ReplyDeleteIt's a tough decision, but can't say I disagree with your argument. The suffering is worse if they can't get adopted and are locked up for the rest of their lives.
ReplyDeleteIt's a pity there are so many greedy people in this world that don't think of the consequences for animals when breeding - they only see the short term financial gain for themselves :-(
